Tricone bit is devided into two kinds: one is tooth bit, and another one is button bit. This classification is based on the IADC code.So what is the IADC code?
IADC code reference:
The first digit:
1,2,3 refers to the steel tooth bit
4,5,6,7,8 refers to the tungsten carbide inserts bit
The second digit:
1 refers to soft rock layer;
2 refers to soft to medium hard rock layer;
3 refers to medium hard rock layer;
4 refers to hard rock layer.
The third digit:
1 refers to standard open bearing roller bit
2 refers to air bearing roller bit;
3,4,5 refers to sealed bearing roller bit;
6,7 refers to journal bearing roller bit.
Such as IADC 537. It refers to tungsten carbide insert tricone bit with journal bearing roller bit, and it suits to drill medium hard rock layer.
